Atlantic Forest Corridors
The project is oriented towards promoting the conservation of forest resources, water resources, the neutralization of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions, and the guarantee of environmental services in public-private areas within the Conservation Units of the Atlantic Forest in the far west of São Paulo.
AR Corridors of Life (Carbon) Project
As of 2021, the Life Corridors project, carried out since 2002 by IPÊ – Institute for Ecological Research – will have its actions expanded by the partnership between IPÊ and the Biophilic Ambipar Environment. Together, IPÊ and Biofílica are carrying out the AR (Afforestation / Reforestation) Corridors of Life (Carbon) project, focused on generating carbon credits from the restoration of the Atlantic Forest in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the far west of São Paulo state.
Agroforestry Nurseries
The agroforestry nurseries produce seedlings of Atlantic Forest species that are used by the settlers on their properties. Besides this, they are a source of income for families and of knowledge for students in Pontal do Paranapanema.
Conservation of the Black Lion Tamarin
The Black Lion Tamarin Conservation Program was the seed for the creation of IPÊ. The conservation efforts began back in 1984, when Claudio Valladares Padua decided to completely change his life to dedicate himself to the conservation of this rare species, which was once considered extinct from the wild, but was rediscovered in the 1970s.
National Initiative for the Conservation of the Lowland Tapir - Atlantic Forest
In 1996, IPÊ started an innovative research and conservation program focused on the lowland tapir in the Atlantic Forest of the Pontal do Paranapanema region (SP).
Agroforestry Systems (SAFs)
Agroforestry systems (SAFs) are productive systems that enhance production in a sustainable way, balancing economic, social, and environmental gains. For over 20 years, IPÊ has been working with this system in Pontal do Paranapanema, together with rural settlers, in an area of great impact for the protection of the Atlantic Forest and all its biodiversity.
Agroforestry bushings
IPÊ’s researchers work in rural extensionism with farmers in the region so that they contribute to the restoration of the Atlantic Forest and, in return, increase their earnings by planting and selling bushels.
Environmental Education Program "A Good Pontal for All"
The Environmental Education Program “Um Pontal Bom Para Todos” is a work that integrates different actors in the mobilization for the conservation of socio-environmental resources in the Pontal do Paranapanema, extreme west of São Paulo (SP). By carrying out projects that complement each other, the program is one of the key points of the IPÊ Conservation Model.
Green Detectives
The project seeks field information on population size, genetic conservation status and dispersal patterns of large mammals from Morro do Diabo State Park and forest remnants in Pontal do Paranapanema (SP).
