As of 2021, the Life Corridors project, carried out since 2002 by IPÊ – Institute for Ecological Research – will have its actions expanded by the partnership between IPÊ and the Biophilic Ambipar Environment. Together, IPÊ and Biofílica are carrying out the AR (Afforestation / Reforestation) Corridors of Life (Carbon) project, focused on generating carbon credits from the restoration of the Atlantic Forest in the Pontal do Paranapanema region, in the far west of São Paulo state.

The Corridors of Life project targets the priority areas for restoration identified by the Dream Map/IPÊ in seven municipalities in the region: Euclides da Cunha Paulista, Marabá Paulista, Mirante do Paranapanema, Presidente Epitácio, Rosana, Sandovalina and Teodoro Sampaio.

With the adhesion of the Carbon mitigation component, the priority areas for restoration now include 23 more municipalities, bringing the total to 30: Alfredo Marcondes, Alvares Machado, Anhumas, Caiabu, Caiuá, Emilianópolis, Estrela do Norte, Indiana, João Ramalho, Martinópolis, Narandiba, Piquerobi, Pirapozinho, Presidente Bernardes, Presidente Prudente, Presidente Venceslau, Rancharia, Regente Feijó, Ribeirão dos Índios, Santo Anastácio, Santo Expedito, Taciba and Tarabai.

In the initial years, 2021 and 2022, the Life Corridors (Carbon) project aims to restore 250 hectares in the region, the equivalent of 500,000 Atlantic Forest tree seedlings. The hope is to attract companies interested in generating carbon credits. In all, between restoration, through planting seedlings, enrichment or conducting regeneration, the project will contribute to converting 75,000 hectares of areas of environmental liabilities on private properties into restored areas with around 150 million new tree seedlings.
