The Day of Giving is a global initiative that emerged in 2012 in the USA as a counterpoint to the excessive consumption generated by the end-of-year festivities and the “Black Friday” discount day. The movement encourages philanthropy through a national campaign that uses social networks and an interactive website to spread the idea. It is present in countries such as Germany, Australia, Singapore, Israel and Ireland. In Brazil, it was held for the first time in 2013.
