Through partnerships with the private sector and other organizations, IPÊ seeks to stimulate the view of institutions, their collaborators, consumers, and clients towards the socio-environmental cause. To do this, it creates joint strategies that engage these actors in actions that generate mutual benefits for its participants and the cause.
Since 2003, we have been carrying out customized projects for companies and organizations, which are directly related to IPÊ’s mission and to the objectives and values of the partner institutions. See some examples of who has already been our partner and get inspired to participate with us in actions like this one:
Since 2006, IPÊ has encouraged companies to carry out integration programs with their employees through voluntary work and environmental awareness. The idea is to promote a full day in direct contact with nature, carrying out reforestation activities (seedling production and planting workshops), attending awareness-raising talks and getting to know the work routine of IPÊ researchers more closely.
Other companies have also done their bit to reforest areas of the Atlantic Forest, which is of great importance since deforestation not only harms flora and fauna, but also the quality and volume of water in rivers and dams that supply the population.
To make events of this kind possible, the Institute has specialized technical staff and a nursery with a production capacity of 70,000 seedlings per year.
Events can be publicized to the press and covered online via Twitter, so that employees who can’t attend can follow what’s going on.
In 2010 alone, Timberland’s 260 volunteers (employees and their families) planted 700 native Atlantic Forest tree seedlings in an area of the municipality of Nazaré Paulista. This was the third year that the company has carried out this task force. In 2006 and 2009 the event was also held in partnership with IPÊ and over the three years a total of 1,200 trees were planted. The action was part of Timberland’s annual celebration of “International Earth Day” around the world.
IPÊ professionals are responsible for monitoring the seedlings until they are three years old – when they will be ready to grow in the wild alongside other trees. The riparian forest will help conserve the water quality of the reservoir.
