Coelba
Through partnerships with the private sector and other organizations, IPÊ seeks to stimulate the view of institutions, their collaborators, consumers, and clients towards the socio-environmental cause. To do this, it creates joint strategies that engage these actors in actions that generate mutual benefits for its participants and the cause.
Since 2003, we have been carrying out customized projects for companies and organizations, which are directly related to IPÊ’s mission and to the objectives and values of the partner institutions. IPÊ and Coelba agreement
In 2012, IPÊ and Coelba – Companhia de Eletricidade do Estado da Bahia – signed an agreement to carry out forest restoration in the Atlantic Forest of southern Bahia, in accordance with the company’s “Energia Verde” project. The project aims, with consumer support, to increase the area of vegetation in the biome in order to increase the supply of ecosystem services, support climate change mitigation and conserve soil, water and local biodiversity.
To take part, customers sign up to the project and donate R$3, R$5 or R$7 each month, to be charged to their electricity bill over 12 months. The money raised is invested in reforesting degraded areas of Atlantic Forest in the south of Bahia. In return, the project offers participants the right to a bonus on the purchase of an air conditioner, refrigerator, freezer or LCD television certified with the Procel Energy Saving Seal and provides six 15W compact fluorescent light bulbs.
To carry out the work, IPÊ has a local partnership with Polímata Soluções Ambientais, the local partner responsible for making the project operational.
The agreement will restore 28 hectares and will be implemented in the last quarter of 2012, with 90% local labor. It will be carried out on the property of cattle farmers in the municipalities of Itapé and Jussari, who are interested in recovering areas of their properties to make up the percentage needed to form their Legal Reserve and to recover springs to supply water to the property.

About Polímata
Polímata Soluções Ambientais is a company that provides technical assistance, services and environmental consultancy for the rural, tourism and leisure sectors, environmental sanitation, public bodies and civil society in general. Its origins were inspired by one of its founders’ apprenticeship in the Professional Master’s program at ESCAS – Escola Superior de Conservação Ambiental e Sustentabilidade (School of Environmental Conservation and Sustainability), with the aim of developing activities aimed at biodiversity conservation and sustainability in the south of Bahia.
