How does it work?
All Convention Visitors Bureaux units are maintained primarily by the “room tax”, a fee that is collected from lodging establishments and passed on by the partners to these non-profit organizations. The proceeds are used to promote local tourism, financing regional tourism development projects and maintaining the Bureau.
With Turista+, part of the room tax goes to IPÊ, which works in the region to conserve local biodiversity and forest and water resources. As well as contributing to the Institute’s research, studies and environmental protection actions, those who choose to pay the small contribution are also covered by special personal accident insurance from Porto Seguro during their stay.
The aim of the project is to involve visitors in the network of partners who cooperate to foster the development of the region, and to encourage the practice of conscientious tourism, disseminating the importance of everyone’s concern and participation in the conservation of the natural resources that are a fundamental part of local tourism.
To take part in the project, the establishment must become a member of the organization and implement room-tax collection in its hotel or hostel. In other types of establishment, the price is the same and the charge is one-off.
