Besides this, they are a source of income for families and of knowledge for students in Pontal do Paranapanema. <\/p><p><strong>Community Nurseries<\/strong><\/p><p>With the community nurseries, rural settlers produce seedlings of forest species for use on their properties and for sale. The project helps agrarian reform settlers plan their properties, emphasizing agroforestry and silvopastoral practices, encouraging the creation of agroforestry forests on their properties, forming forest islands of biodiversity that serve as &#8220;ecological stepping stones&#8221; or wildlife refuges.<\/p><p>The creation of community nurseries is a very useful tool for integrating and training settler families in agroforestry techniques, which make better use of properties and conserve the environment at a lower cost. IP\u00ca periodically provides Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) to the nurseries, supplying some basic inputs for their continuity, such as substrate and seeds, but mainly helping the farmer to develop his knowledge.<\/p><p>There are currently 11 community nurseries, which benefit from producing an average of 400,000 forest seedlings every year. <\/p><p><strong>Nursery School<\/strong><\/p><p>The &#8220;school nursery&#8221; was created through a partnership between IP\u00ca and COCAMP\/MST. Located in the COCAMP\/MST industrial park, the nursery has an average annual production of 150,000 seedlings. Seedlings of native species such as Guarit\u00e1 (<em>Astronium graveolen<\/em>), Peroba Rosa (<em>Aspidosperma polyneuron<\/em>), Pau Marfim (<em>Balfourodendron riedelianum<\/em>), Pink Cedar (<em>Cedrela fissillis<\/em>), Copa\u00edba (<em>Copaifera langsdorffii<\/em>); wild fruit species such as cashew (<em>Anacardium occidentale<\/em>), Jaca (<em>Artocarpus heterophylus<\/em>), Pitanga (<em>Eugenia uniflora<\/em>), Ara\u00e7a<em>(Psidium ara\u00e7a<\/em>), as well as exotic species of commercial interest such as Teak<em>(Tectonia grandis<\/em>),<em>Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus spp.<\/em>) and<em>Acacia (Acacia manjium<\/em>).<\/p><p>One of the aims of this nursery is not only to produce forest seedlings for IP\u00ca and COCAMP\/MST projects, but also to train local students agroflorestais s\u00e3o parte de uma estrat\u00e9gia de conserva\u00e7\u00e3o elaborada pelo IP\u00ca - Instituto de Pesquisas Ecol\u00f3gicas e seus parceiros, com o objetivo de restaurar a paisagem fragmentada do Pontal do Paranapanema.<\/p><p>S\u00e3o importantes produtores de mudas florestais utilizadas pelos projetos agroflorestais de restaura\u00e7\u00e3o de habitat, como os projetos Abra\u00e7o Verde, Corredores Agroflorestais, Caf\u00e9 com Floresta, entre outros.<\/p><p>Os viveiros tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o importantes centros de capacita\u00e7\u00e3o, onde as fam\u00edlias de assentados da reforma agr\u00e1ria que integram os grupos dos viveiros recebem constante assist\u00eancia t\u00e9cnica por meio da ATER agroecol\u00f3gica feita pelos pesquisadores do IP\u00ca.<\/p><p>Outro aspecto relevante \u00e9 a capacita\u00e7\u00e3o oferecida pelo \"viveiro escola\" a estudantes de col\u00e9gios t\u00e9cnicos da regi\u00e3o, atrav\u00e9s de um programa de est\u00e1gio.<\/p><p>\u00c9 importante ressaltar a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de renda direta e indireta \u00e0s fam\u00edlias assentadas da reforma agr\u00e1ria atrav\u00e9s da venda de mudas
