Sewing the Future

Sewing the Future involves 12 families in a joint income generation and environmental conservation project. We train women to sew and embroider purses and shirts with motifs depicting animal species studied by IPE.

Environmental Education in Nazaré Paulista - resident awareness and conservation of natural resources

The community of Nazaré Paulista has participated in IPE biodiversity conservation activities since 1997. During these years, the Environmental Education team has imparted knowledge to the rural population on the Atlantic Forest and its ecological systems, biodiversity, its fragility and its potential for sustainable practices. We seek to promote changes in values that incorporate the ecosystem with local culture and enable different segments of the community to adopt practices that increase family income and improve quality of life.

ESCAS - Graduate School of Environmental Conservation and Sustainability

The ESCAS Graduate School of Environmental Conservation and Sustainability is an initiative at IPÊ to train professionals capable of developing, implementing and replicating projects in the socioenvironmental arena. With ESCAS, IPÊ develops an important part of its institutional mission, which is to share knowledge for biodiversity conservation in an innovative way.

Ecosystems Services

Forests provide many benefits to people. These are known as ecosystem services. In Nazaré Paulista, some services associated with local forests include sequestration of CO2 from the atmosphere (mitigating the greenhouse effect), prevention of sedimentation in the reservoir and erosion control.
